Arrival. Am I here or am I still on that plane, drinking thimble sized plastic glasses of water and wishing my seat would go back further? I can’t really tell any more. I can remember taking a taxi from somewhere but to be honest, I’m that tired I don’t really remember.
I think that these days, all of the excitement from flying has left me. I just want to get from A to B as quickly as possible. So this would explain the momentary loss of memory from the moment I leave my seat in the Aisle to when I get to my room. I simply race through immigration, grab a trolley and run out the door with my bag in sprint fashion. I’ve perfected my emotionless stare and polite nod to the poker faced immigration people and developed my esp to select the right baggage carousel.
And there’s good reason too, I mean there’s more time to enjoy where you are and things. Hotel room, fresh and exciting to feel the patter of water on your face and to jump on your bed (if you’re me that is). Arrive Ubud. I always judge a place by the initial spark – that feeling of belonging or welcoming. I had it as soon as I leave the city limits of Denpensar. The drive to Ubud is spectacular

The best thing was awaiting me on arrival, Artini Cottages 2. What a spectacular place. Anywhere with flowers awaiting you on the bed has got to be special. A serene pool, picturesque cottages all set in traditional Balinese architecture. Wow! Take some time to breathe it all in…
Air con is not necessary. Especially if when you’re acclimatising to the heat. Having a fan is the best thing to help you cool down but also to help me sleep soundly. It also gave me something to stare at for a while as I came to. Shower….shower time…time for a shower.
Some time to wonder around the hotel before heading out for a much needed first beer. Wow this place is nice…seriously nice. I can’t remember being this impressed by a hotel than this. Walking up the streets and seeking out some first impressions. Shops…lots of them. Jewellery. And for quite amazingly lots of signs in Japanese. Ah, there it is! That will end up on my back. Indeed, that looks like a good watering hole. Big Bintang.
…And it was
